When we have physical discomfort or self-consciousness because of our most intimate areas, it can be difficult to talk about. But with the help of board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rocheford, you don’t have to feel uncomfortable any longer. With her compassionate care and expertise, you can feel safe putting your trust in her and discover the results you’re looking for.

What is Labiaplasty/Labia Reduction Surgery?

Labiaplasty is a female genital cosmetic procedure that is designed to reduce the size of the labia majora and/or labia minora. These are the skin and folds that surround the opening of the vagina.

When there is excess skin in this area, it can become twisted, pinched, or pulled and cause discomfort during sex and strenuous exercise. Beyond discomfort, the surgery can also be done for cosmetic reasons if you don’t like the way your labia looks and/or it is visible when you wear tight clothing.

Depending on your needs, Dr. Rocheford will customize your surgery to give you the results you’re looking for.

“There are not that many women surgeons in the Twin Cities. I felt Dr. Rocheford listened to what I wanted to achieve, didn’t push other procedures and was realistic about expected outcomes. I am so happy with the results, well placed stitch line and natural looking outcome. The aftercare nurse Jenny was spectacular. I felt well cared for and she was available whenever I had a question. If I decide to do another procedure I will definitely go back to Dr. Rocheford.”

BOARD CERTIFIED PLASTIC SURGEON

There are so many fads and false promises out there. It’s almost impossible to make a confident decision without trusted advice, and that’s what I’m here for. My goal is to help you understand what is right for you – based on your unique situation.

Meet Dr. Rocheford

The Labiaplasty Procedure

To start your labiaplasty surgery, we will begin by administering general. Once you are comfortably asleep, Dr. Rocheford will use the necessary incisions and surgical techniques to change the size and shape of your labia based on your needs and what was discussed during your consultation.

The most common type of labiaplasty is the trim procedure. With this technique, extra labial tissue is removed from the labia and is then sewn up. There is also the wedge procedure (wedge resection), where a wedge of excess tissue is removed and the rest of the existing genital tissues are sewn back together.

How long your labiaplasty takes will depend on the technique used and the results you’re looking for. On average, you can expect it to be about 2 hours.

Labiaplasty Recovery and Results

While you will be able to go home after your labia majora or labia minora reduction procedure, you will need someone to drive you home due to the after-effects of the anesthesia. You will have some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, but this will dissipate within the next week or so. Because of these side effects, most patients take at least a week off work.

To help with discomfort, you can place a cold compress in your underwear for 20 minutes at a time.

To ensure a smooth recovery after your labia surgery, we also recommend elevating your lower body and avoiding strenuous activities. You will want to avoid sexual intercourse and wearing tampons for six weeks.

Your final results after labial reduction can take several months to emerge. These results are considered permanent. While you may see some changes as you age, they will be very slight.
