What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves signs of aging along the jawline and neck by recontouring the area. This procedure corrects excess deposits of fat under the chin that have caused jowls, loose neck skin, and muscle banding of the neck.
Cost of a Neck Lift
Neck Lift: $11,000
This is an average price and is subject to change depending on each patient’s individual evaluation. Surgery cost includes anesthesia costs and the facility fee. It does not include the cost of pre-operative lab tests, physicals, or medications. Dr. Rocheford charges $100 per consultation, and this price is deducted from the price of your surgery.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Patients who are not ready for a traditional facelift procedure, but are unhappy with excess skin around the neck and jawline often benefit from a neck lift. Many candidates choose to have a neck lift after experiencing common signs of aging such as a loss of elasticity in the skin as well as weakened tissue and muscles. Ideal candidates are healthy, non-smokers who have realistic expectations for the outcome of their surgery. A neck lift turns back the aging clock producing a more youthful appearance, however, it cannot stop the aging process. You should not choose a neck lift as an alternative to weight loss. If you are in your ideal weight range and weight loss strategies fail to relieve your sagging skin, you might consider a neck lift for recontouring.

Your neck lift procedure will be performed under sedation or general anesthesia to ensure your comfort. A neck lift procedure can be done using a traditional neck lift incision or a limited incision, depending on the degree of improvement desired. A traditional neck lift incision begins in the hairline near the sideburns and runs down and around the ear. Fat in the jowls and neck may be redistributed, and neck tissue repositioned. Excess skin will be trimmed away. Neck liposuction can be used to eliminate stubborn fat areas such as a double chin. For this, an additional incision underneath the chin is often needed for liposuction. A limited incision neck lift only calls for incisions around the ear. Since the incisions are shorter, results may not be as dramatic as those of a traditional neck lift incision.
Neck Lift Recovery
Your neck lift recovery will depend on the techniques used by your surgeon. It is important to follow all of your surgeon’s post-op instructions and restrictions to ensure a complete recovery for optimal results. Following a neck lift, patients will wear a bandage on their face and neck to help minimize swelling during recovery. Drains may also be placed to collect any excess fluid to prevent complications. Common side effects include bruising, soreness, swelling, tightness, and temporary numbness. It is important that patients keep their heads elevated and their necks straight to ensure optimal healing. Do not apply ice to the neck area, as this can inhibit blood flow, resulting in damage to the skin. Results can be seen as swelling and bruising subside. After this time, you can notice a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance in your neck area. Commonly, patients can return to work within two weeks, and resume strenuous exercise after a few months.
