You’re thrilled with your little bundle of joy – and now that your family’s complete, you can’t wait to see what the future holds. But when it comes to your post-pregnancy tummy, you’re less than thrilled about how you look. No matter how fit you might have been before pregnancy, giving birth can weaken and even separate the abdominal muscles. This may result in creating a “bowled-out” belly, making your stomach look rounder. Other moms suffer from a belly pooch as a result of weakened abdominal muscles, looser skin, and fat that’s difficult to exercise off.
So if you’re a new mom looking to get your pre-baby body back, what can you do?
The answer could be a tummy tuck with Heather Rocheford, MD at Rocheford Plastic Surgery in Woodbury, Minnesota (also serving the Minneapolis-St. Paul areas). As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Rocheford understands the concerns and questions that patients have about tummy tucks after pregnancy. That’s why Dr. Rocheford is happy to answer the following questions about a tummy tuck after pregnancy:
What Does A Tummy Tuck Involve?
With the traditional tummy tuck, a horizontal incision is made on the lower abdomen, just above the pubic area. This allows Dr. Rocheford to pull back the skin, remove fat, and manually repair the abdominal muscles that have been separated by pregnancy. Once these steps have been taken, Dr. Rocheford will pull the skin back down, trim off any excess skin, and close up the incision. Patients typically need 10 to 14 days of full recovery before getting back on their feet, which means mothers will need to make childcare arrangements during recovery.

What Is A Mini Tummy Tuck?
A mini tummy tuck focuses on removing the pooch below the belly button, and is usually ideal for moms who might not have as much of a rounded belly. The incision is slightly shorter, and there is no incision around the belly button.
