Are Lip Fillers Safe?

Posted on October 27, 2015 by: Dr. Rocheford

Let’s face it: You’ve been dreaming about plumping your lips for a long time.  Before Kylie Jenner debuted her newfound lips – and even before Angelina Jolie – you may have been imagining how your lips would look if they were slighter plumper.

The only thing holding you back from getting the lips you’ve been longing for?  The fear of looking like a Real Housewife, or worse – getting lip fillers that just aren’t safe.

If this sounds familiar, then it’s time to introduce yourself to Juvederm and Restylane Silk.

Lip Enhancement at Rocheford Plastic Surgery

Did you know that both Juvederm Ultra XC and Restylane Silk were recently approved by the FDA for injections into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation? Trusted board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Heather Rocheford, at Rocheford Plastic Surgery in Woodbury, MN (also serving the St. Paul/Minneapolis cities), not only uses these lip fillers because they’re approved by the FDA – she also uses it because it provides subtle enhancements that won’t make patients look “overdone.”

Juvederm Ultra XC is a colorless hyaluronic acid gel, which is injected directly into the lips.  The gel contains a small amount of lidocaine to provide more comfort for the patient. Restylane Silk, a variation of Restylane, is comprised of a clear hyaluronic acid gel, which is injected directly into the lips.  The particle gel formula is thinner than other hyaluronic acid fillers, which means you can experience the same volumization effect without lips feeling hard or looking overly plump.

Like with most fillers, patients should expect mild and temporary swelling directly after the treatment. However, the effects of for either Juvederm Ultra XC or Retsylane Silk lip augmentation can last for up to one year, making both a great treatment for people with busy schedules.

But What About Wrinkles Around the Lips and Nose? Lip Lines?

To treat those pesky smoker lines, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines, Dr. Rocheford prefers to use Juvederm and Restylane to smooth away these deeper lines and wrinkles.  For lip lines she relies on the aforementioned FDA-approved Restylane Silk.

Often times lips and lip lines, or wrinkles, can be treated together, so you’ll want to discuss your concerns in goals to determine the best plan of action to achieve your desired look.
