The Many Uses of Botox

Posted on April 1, 2015 by: Dr. Rocheford

botoxIn recent years, Botox has become a household name, and for good reason: It’s one of the best skin injectables for smoothing away wrinkles, fine lines, and creases around the eyes and forehead.  Botox is so popular that it’s grown as a $2 billion+ industry, with more profits projected in the coming years.

You may already know that Botox is one of the best ways to look younger – but did you know that Botox has several other incredible benefits?  Take a look at just a few of the ways Botox is being used today.

  1. Botox can be used in combination with fillers like Juvederm, thus helping to promote a more youthful appearance. Juvederm promotes collagen and elastin production, which helps add volume to your face and fights the natural sagging of the skin that occurs as we age.  This combination of Botox and fillers is often referred to as the “liquid facelift.”
  1. If you suffer from excessive and embarrassing sweating, Botox could offer you much-needed relief. Botulinum toxin – the active ingredient in Botox – has been shown to curb production of the sweat glands, thus helping to cure excessive sweating in areas like the armpits and hands.  Botox treatment for excessive sweating has recently been approved by the FDA; results last for up to six months.
  1. Botox has been found to effectively treat migraines. In Botox studies, researchers started to notice that migraine sufferers started to report fewer headaches; as a result, these studies found that Botox was one of the best treatments for migraine relief.  The FDA has recently approved Botox for the treatment of migraines.
  1. Botox has been shown to relieve arthritic pain. Although studies are still pending on this benefit, some practitioners are already using Botox to help promote arthritic relief in older patients.
