Often, moles are bothersome in their appearance alone. These can be easily removed under local anesthesia in the office. Up to 4 moles may be removed at one time. Typically, there will be dissolving stitches underneath the skin and sometimes, external stitches. External stitches will be removed in 6 days. The tradeoff of mole removal is a scar that is slightly longer than the mole. The scar will fade within one year. You must protect the scar from the sun with SPF 15 or higher for one year to minimize scarring. Moles with concerning characteristics will be sent for evaluation.
