Juvederm and Restylane are used to fill up wrinkles and furrows that cannot be treated with Botox. They are especially good for those lines around your mouth. It can also be used to give lips a fuller, more defined appearance. Restylane was approved by the FDA in February of 2004. It has been used widely in Europe and Canada for many years. Restylane is comprised of hyaluronic acid, one of the major components of our own skin. Because it is created in the laboratory, there is virtually no chance of allergic reaction and little chance of infection. The greatest feature of this product is that it lasts 6 - 9 months! Treatments take anywhere from 15 - 45 minutes depending on the areas you are having treated. Injections are put into the area using a tiny needle. Topical anesthetic is all that is usually required, although a complete numbing of the area can also be done. Treatments are not permanent and will slowly dissipate over 6 - 9 months.
