How to Know if You Need a Mommy Makeover

Posted on November 19, 2014 by: Dr. Rocheford

Pregnancy and nursing can take a toll on a woman’s body. Some of the issues many women experience are a loss in breast tissue volume, sagging breasts, excess skin on the abdomen, stretched abdominal muscles and love handles. Diet and exercise can help women get back in shape and feel good about themselves, and that is the winning combination for the lucky ones. However, if your body is not responding to diet and exercise, or if you have issues that only surgery can fix, then a Mommy Makeover is your saving grace!

What Is A Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of breast and abdominal plastic surgery procedures that restores a woman’s post-pregnancy body. A mommy makeover can include a combination of the following procedures:

Tummy Tuck: This procedure removes excess abdominal fat and sagging skin, and also tightens the skin. It corrects laxity in the abdominal wall, and baggy stomach skin. The tummy will be flatter and taut after the procedure.

Breast Lift: This is done to raise the breasts and nipples. It is recommended for women with moderate to severe ptosis (drooping) of the breasts.

Breast Augmentation: This is recommended for women that want to increase the size of their breasts. The breasts will look fuller after surgery.

Liposuction: Liposuction is done to remove pockets of fat from areas such as the abdomen, hips, and upper arms, and contour the body.

How to Know if You Need a Mommy Makeover:

•Your breasts droop and have lost shape and volume, especially in the upper regions.

•You have extra fat on the abdomen, as well as love handles. Fat in these areas often does not respond to dieting and exercise, so women often feel frustrated that their efforts at losing weight are unsuccessful.

•Your tummy protrudes. Childbirth often causes the abdominal muscles to separate, and unfortunately no amount of exercising can help this problem.

It is important to check with your plastic surgeon to find out if you would be a good candidate for a mommy makeover. If you are in the Minneapolis-St. Paul areas, then you can contact Dr. Heather Rocheford at Rocheford Plastic Surgery, for more information.
